In March 2016, I released an updated version of Hiren's BootCD 64-bit edition that featured the latest Windows 10 system files for some models of computers. This updated version included the latest 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 10 system files, and included the following new tools: BCD-MBR Tools (the ability to repair partition table, and repair MBR using partition table information), and Hard Disk Tools (the ability to detect dead and missing partitions on hard disks), and a new option to install Windows 7 compatibility mode and WUBI Linux, while running a PE (Preinstallation Environment) version of the Linux distribution. The Hiren's BootCD PE edition's main advantage over the full Hiren's BootCD package is that the Hiren's BootCD PE edition also includes a copy of Windows 7 with a PE. It also included all of the tools needed to restore the Windows 7 system to a state that is compatible with Windows 8.1. It also had a built-in function to backup the partition table, and even the entire disk, so that the PE files could be written to a USB stick and then transferred to the hard disk, allowing users to then replace the old PE partition with the updated PE partition and then re-install Windows 7. This re-established version of Hiren's BootCD 64-bit edition is a bootable disc and can be run from a DVD or flash drive to repair the operating system and to perform other tasks, such as a Repair Disc, and a re-established version of the WUBI-Linux program. Hiren's BootCD PE (Preinstallation Environment) is a restore version of the Linux-distribution Linux PE, with added functionality, including the Windows 7 PE. Hiren's BootCD PE is a re-established and updated version of Hiren's BootCD 64-bit edition that includes a Windows 7 PE, and the ability to repair an MBR, partition table, and restore the Windows 7 boot loader.
